Udupi, Jan 29: Thousands of devotees gathered in the temple town to witness the biennial transition of power to worship Lord Krishna during the recently concluded paryaya.
The entire town wore a festive look with the streets and buildings illuminated with bright lights.
“Sri Krishna Math has taken the initiative in changing the perspective of the society and there is necessary to give rise to awareness among people about the need to work for the protection of Dharma (righteousness),” said Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar. He was speaking at the religious convention held at Rajangana, Sri Krishna Math here on January 20.
He was speaking on the third day of paryaya darbar meeting. Sunil Kumar further said, “Today an explosive was found at Mangaluru airport. Protection of Dharma has to be done in everywhere to eradicate such fearful atmosphere.”
Sri Ishapriya Theertha swamiji of Admar Math presided over the programme.
MLAs K Raghupathi Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, businessmen Gurme Suresh Shetty and Purushotham Shetty, Suggi Sudhakar Shetty Pune, Prof M B Puranik, Lakshmi Narayana Mucchinthaya, Dr A Raja Shubha were present.
On the fourth day of Paryaya on January 21, former minister R V Deshpande addressing the gathering said, “Today unemployment has swelled into a huge problem, Even MBA, engineer graduates are jobless. There is need to transforming youth into skilled professionals by providing good education and skill development training to build their career. The youth should reap the benefit of science.
“A number of educational institutions were established by the late Sri Vibhudesha Theerta right from kindergarten to college, and these institutions have been providing quality education. But today education has become commercialized. It is important to inculcate culture in them through Maths and temples,” he felt.
K Jayaprakash Hegde felt that keeping the environment clean, stopping use of plastic, rainwater conservation etc should be implemented from our homes.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister, H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, MAHE, Prof M B Puranik, president, Sri Krishna Seva Balaga U K Raghavendra, T Ashok Pai, secretary, TMA Pai were present.
Dr Ranjan R Pai, chief Manipal educational institutions, was honoured by Ishapriya Sri Theertha swamiji.
State BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, T Ashok Pai, Vasanthi Pai, trustee of MAHE Vasanthi Pai, were present.
On January 20, Ishapriya presented Sri Krishna Seva Award to Vishalakshi Madhwaramana Acharya in memory of late Arikotlu Gopalakrishna Bhat and Vedavyasa Bhat, Kunjarugiri.
On Saturday, January 18, there was violin concert performed by three generations of artistes, by Padmabhushan Dr N Rajam, Dr Sangeetha Shankar, Kumari Ragini, Shankar and Kumari Nandini Shankar and team from Mumbai.
On the same day, Hindustani Classical and Devotional concert held by Mahesh Kale Pune and troupe was presented.
Rajendra Acharya was honoured with Sri Krishna Seva award in memory of Late Krishna Melanta Bhat. Subrahmanya Bhat was honoured with Sri Krishna Seva award in memory of Late Kuppanna Bhat Marpalli.
The students of Poornaprajna institutions enthralled the crowd with their cultural performance Poornaprajna Samskrithika Vaibhava.
On the third day, in a concluding ceremony of Paryaya Darbar, Admar Paryaya swamiji in his benedictory address, said, “When there is power, everything will be happy and when we lose power, we remain unhappy. Hence, one should not get unduly attached to anything or any post or any person. It is not good. Let us take how much we need for our life. Human body is like rented house. Soul is only thing that has permanent existence. There is message in Bhagavad Githa that persons should make use of his body to achieve higher ideals in life. May Lord Sri Krishna bless everyone who has extended helping hand for the success of Paryaya," he said.
Dr Ravichandran of Diya Systems was honoured on behalf of Paryaya Darbar Samman and Dharmegowda, legislative assembly application committee and deputy speaker and committee members were felicitated on the occasion.
B M Sukumar Shetty, MLA Byndoor, Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani group, Hariyappa Kotian, businessman, Prof Radhakrishna Acharya, retired principal of Poorna Prajna College, addressed the gathering.
Virachita, book of Om Prakash Bhat, was released on the occasion.

Security guard Nagaraja Paramappa Jali was honoured with Sri Krishna Seva award in memory of Late Gunda Maistry. Honnappa Yamunappa B Shetty, was honoured with Sri Krishna Seva Award in memory of Late Thukra Marakala.
Followed by the stage programme a cultural performance ‘Harikathamrutha sara-Yakshagana Koodata’ by Sri Guruprasaditha Yakshagana Mandali, Saligrama, were staged.
