Udupi, Jan 29: District police department did not grant permission to hold Padayathra organized as part of protest meeting to be held on January 30, said Amrith Shenoy, president of Sahabalve Udupi.
He was speaking at a press meet organised on Tuesday, January 28 at Don Bosco hall, near Mother of Sorrows Church Udupi here. He said, “We have decided to hold padayathra from near SP Office Bannanje to Christian High School ground Udupi.
“The protest is against Central government laws like Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR). We have requested police department to give permission to hold peaceful protest march, but they have refused. The meet will begin at 4 pm. People of India should talk against the Central government’s newly implemented Acts. We, the citizens of India, should criticise and condemn the mistakes made by the government. It is hitting the original theme of Constitution of India. Does it control the harassment happening on Indians living in Pakistan? The government is imposing its law by force. It is wasting time in implementation of unnecessary laws, which are not useful.”
Ramesh Kanchan, general correspondent, said, “District BJP held signature campaign in favour of CAA on Paryaya occasion. It was a religious programme, and BJP leaders were busy doing politics. They insulted the religious programme. They should have used such an auspicious occasion this way.”
Yogish Shetty, JD(S) district president, said “All these bills are against Indian Constitution and ruling party are committed to implementing it by ignoring all interests of people.”
The main speaker will be Chandrasekhar Azad, founder and Bhim Army leader.
Thinkers and social fighters Sasikanth Cynthel, Mahendra Kumar,Kavitha Reddy, Meharoz Khan, Bhavya Narasimha Murthy, Nazma Nazeer, Amulya and other leaders will participate in the rally.
As many as 5 LEDs will be installed, drinking water for protesters and gatherings, emergency unit, ambulance, and toilets have been arranged.
A crow of 10,000 to 15,000 is expected at the protest meet. Around 500 volunteers will join hands. Parking place have been marked near Town hall, Ammanni Ramanna hall ground and near Christian high
school ground.
Yasin Malpe, district president, Muslim okkoota, William Martis, K Abdul Rehman Kalkatha, Sundar Master, Nazeer, Veronica Cornelio, Shashidar Hemmadi, Sifulla, Balakrishna Shetty and others were
present.
