Moodbidri, Jan 28: The last rites of former minister K Amarnath Shetty who passed away on Monday were performed with all the government honours at Mundrudeguthu, Paladka village on Tuesday, January 28.
People were allowed to pay their last respects at the Ashrita residence, Gandhinagar, Moodbidri since Monday morning. His body was brought in open vehicle in procession from there at about 8.40 am in front of MCS bank. The management of MCS bank where Amarnath Shetty was the president, staff, Rotary school staff, students, Moodbidri Ganeshotsava samithi office bearers and thousands of people offered their last respects.
It was brought later via Alangar, Kodyadka road to Mundrudeguthu of Paladka. Panambur ACP Beliappa draped tricolour flag to the body of Amarnath Shetty and paid his respects. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Umanath Kotian, Ivan D’ Souza, tahsildar Anitalaxmi, police inspector Dinesh Kumar B S and others offered flower bouquets and offered their respects at Bakimar fields. Three rounds of gun salute was offered in the leadership of armed police sub inspector Devi Prasad.
Amarnath Shetty’s brother Rathnaker Shetty and another brother Diwaker Shetty’s son Rakesh Shetty lighted the pyre.
Chennabasava Swamy of Lingappayyakadu Jangamath, MLA Y Bharath Shetty, former minister U T Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Alvas institute foundation president Dr Mohan Alva, UPCL Adani company president Kishore Alva, trustee Harikrishna Punarooru, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, BJP district president Sudarshan M, vice president K P Jagadish Adhikari, district panchayat member K P Sucharita Shetty, MCS bank chief executive Chandrashekar M, Moodbidri Ganeshotsava committee chief secretary Narayana P M, Rotary school principal Vincent D’Costa and others paid their last respects.
