Kundapur: Lady’s argument with traffic policemen - Video goes viral, cops file case

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (MS)

Kundapur, Jan 28: The police department has a filed a case against a lady, whose video of her argument with traffic policemen during the vehicle check at Hemmady has gone viral on social media.

On January 21, ASI Tharanath was conducting vehicle check in his highway patrol vehicle on the national highway near Hemmady. During this check, they stopped a car driven by Shanti Picardo, who was going from Kundapur to Byndoor as she was not wearing the seat belt. She was asked to pay a fine of Rs 500 for not wearing the seat belt. However, instead of paying the fine, Shanti Picardo argued with the traffic cops of taking bribe and did not allow the cops to check her vehicle documents.

In the complaint filed by the police against Shanti Picardo they have alleged that she did not allow her vehicle to be checked and thereby caused obstruction to the duty of government personnel. She did not even accept the notice, which was served on her under the Motor Vehicles Act. In addition, the whole episode, including her abuse to the police and accusing them of trying to mint money is videographed and made viral on the social media, thereby making the police to lose their self-confidence and morale.

This is absolute hypocrisy from the police department. If the cops were right why didnt they object and clarify right on the spot. They too had mobile phones to shoot a video. These guys are known for taking bribes. Even in padubidre there is one such gang of coos making money from truckers and it is a well known secret. Oh God where are we headed. So the cops are free to ask for bribe but we arent free to protest or videograph them. And moreover if taken to task, file a false case on us. Wow. Exemplary case of dictatorship.

In UAE no one will argue with police. If anyone argues than immediately they will show the photos of which place, what time you committed the crime. Here you can't say lady is completely wrong. In court also they want proof. Does police caught her red handed. Just they stopped the car and asked her money. Policemen is busy sitting in car giving penalty Bill's.

It is simple... if Shanthi Madam was at fault, she wouldn't have recorded video. She would have just paid fine or argued with police and disappeared from there without paying fine!
People commit mistake, don't dare to take video or photo, which can be used as proof at later stage!

Here, it clearly looks, she is right and hence while seeing at mobile camera, police looks nervous! To avoid further shame from video going viral, police now trying for action, to save face!!!

Its the 100% Gundagiri by police man trying to loot the common people. Police man are always well prepared to these kind of situations. They know how to trap innocent people. We common people sometimes find it difficult to prove our self that we are following all traffic rules. And now the police case against the lady - kind of additional burden to her.

I think the police are at fault for the following reasons

    1) If she wasn't wearing a her seat belt, the police can give her a ticket and she does not have to pay it on the spot. that is definitely considered a bribe. In this case the police were forcing her to pay the ticket on the spot.
    2) She was stopped for a seat belt violation, why are they searching her car? that is how the police harass civilians all the time.

Why police raise complaint after the video goes viral. If the law has been respected by the lady they should have take action that day itself. By the way to inspect the lady driven car there should be lady cop on duty. It looks like face off action by the police to save their respect which is in the wind these days

In western countries they have an internal affairs department to investigate corrupt officers within the force. The Police there are more scared of Internal affairs than any outside agency. In India we have nothing of that kind. When any corrupt act takes place another corrupt officer is appointed to hush up matters on the pretext of investigating. There is a huge rush for the posts of inspectors and lakhs are paid as bribes to get appointed. Therefore one can guess how honest a person can be who has paid a huge bribe to get the post in the first place. We often hear of police reforms but no politician is interested in working towards reforms in the police department. Presently our police officers are poorly paid and poorly trained. The conditions of their living quarters is pathetic and it is difficult for most of them to make ends meet with the salaries they are paid. Until all these issues are addressed our police forces will remain so, despised by the public and abandoned by the political masters.

Police knew that its their mistake … hence they filed the fake care against that lady … !!
(first off all where is lady police ..?… if you want to inspect/ check the ladies driven vehicle lady police should be on duty…)
“its happening very often in kundapura region …harassing of vehicle owners without no reason in some incidence”
The police are standing some corner of HN 66 (in kundapura division), even they stand inner road of state highways (namely few.... towards from hemmady to kollur road, mullikatte junction, talluru junction, towards from moorukai to siddapura road, towards from koteshwara to halady road, near kumbashi etc)

Reason : they knew that the lady filmed the entire show of what had happened , that's why before it goes viral , they have files case against her . Shame on you police . if you the see the video , all the police out there had nothing to say , and we can hear her saying i have given you all the documents, then whats issue . i feel the police at fault not the lady.

If you see in the video, the Lady has come to the Police Vehicle and given the documents. I believe if any checking is to be done, the police has to go to the vehicle which he has stopped and check all the documents as done in the Gulf and Other Countries.

The police should take a photograph whether the seat belt is worn or not or how they can prove. There are chances of making money by simply saying seat belt if not worn and fleecing money from the vehicle owners. Here we can't trust the cops. Some lawyers should go to the court and bring an order to prove specific proof against not wearing seat belts and using mobile while driving.

Problem is we have to prove it in court that we were wearing seatbelt, not speeding above limit....if we argue with judge, he will impose more and more fine.....we live in British raj judiciary even after so many years of independence.

The video shows she arguing with them why they didn't come & inspect her car after she stopped it, how come they cut a challan of not wearing seat belt....etc.
She asked the police to hand over her documents back & they said they have given it back to other person with her, which proves they have filed a fake case.
The intention of police is to harass her by filing this case which always takes many appearances in court & if video evidence is taken police case will fall through.
Time our police vehicles & police too carry a video camera recording all interaction with traffic as well as the arguments to present to the court in case such a situation arises.
If anybody argue for wrong penalty then it is not obstruction of duty but harassment of vehicle owners which many videos exposing with camera phones with all.

Our country has become so corrupt because of selfish people who just want to pay and save trouble for themselves. What they fail to understand is that by paying they are becoming a part of the corrupt system. Fighting corruption is not easy, there is always a price to pay but each time a person fights he adds value to the noble cause.
Shame on people who just pay and keep quite and also promote those tactics.
