New York, Oct 9: The UN Security Council Thursday joined Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in condemning "in the strongest terms" the suicide attack on the Indian embassy that killed 17 people earlier in the day.
The council said in a statement that it was concerned by the "serious threats posed by the Taliban, Al Qaeda and illegal armed groups" to the Afghan society. It called for bringing the attackers and their supporters before justice.
Ban called the attack "senseless" in an earlier statement.
The attack, which also injured 76 people, came as the US-led military operations in Afghanistan entered their ninth year. US President Barack Obama is in the midst of re-evaluating current military strategy there.
