Udupi, Jan 24: A new chapel, dedicated to St Padre Pio, of the Capuchins of the Holy Trinity Province, at Assisi Nilaya, Moodubelle was blessed and inaugurated by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the bishop of Udupi diocese, on Thursday January 23.
Fr John Alwyn Dias, the provincial and his councillors Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza, Fr Peter Cyprian D'Souza and Fr Robin Victor D'Souza and several Capuchin friars were present.
Fr Valerian Mendonca, the dean, Fr Celement Mascarenhas, the parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Mudubelle and a total of around 30 priests and a good number of people witnessed the blessing of the new chapel.
Assisi Nilaya, 16 km away from Udupi, is a Capuchin Minor Seminary, where presently Fr Charles Furtado, the superior, Fr Jason Pais, the assistant, Fr Valerian D'Silva, Br Michael Das and 19 postulants reside.
The friars of Assisi Nilaya and all the Capuchins of Karnataka are grateful to God and all the benefactors, donors and all the people of goodwill through whose help they have built St Pio Chapel.
