Mangaluru, Jan 22: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued instructions to the effect that concession for vehicles owned by locals will be extended only if the vehicles have FASTag. Moreover, vehicles without FASTag which opt to pay cash will not get the concession for two-way journey through the same tollgate within a day. Vehicles without FASTag will have to pay single fair every time they pass through a tollgate.
As only one lane has been opened for those who opt to pay cash at Hejamady tollgate, long line of vehicles can be seen there at any time of the day. There have been incidents of the vehicle drivers or owners getting into arguments with the toll staff and even physical assault.
From February 1, having FASTag for all vehicles is compulsory and the department has instructed the staff to ensure that every vehicle has FASTag. Only vehicles with FASTag will be extended concessions for local vehicles. Therefore, toll staff said that locals who have FASTag can freely move through the tollgate for a month if they buy pass costing Rs 265.
While FASTag registration through banks are often getting delayed, people in possession of suitable documents can get FASTag from the counters of NHAI, Airtel, Axis Bank, PayTM etc at the tollgates.
