Mangaluru, Jan 22: "It is true that Aditya Rao, who is accused in the attempt to bomb Mangaluru International Airport, is my brother. However, last time itself when he made a hoax bomb call, we have kept him out of our family. My father has warned him not to come home. When he was young, he was good. Of late, he is doing these kind of acts," said Akshath Rao, brother of Aditya Rao, accused, who has surrendered to the police at Bengaluru.
Responding to the press at their residence at Chilimbi in the city, Akshath Rao said, "We have asked him to mend his ways. But when he did not listen to our advice, we have kept him out of the family. We do not have any contact with him now. We are living our life. We cannot be held responsible for what he does. We are not in touch with him for the past two years. We have just left him to his self. We are only two children. We are basically from Manipal, but are living in Mangaluru since six months.
"During his childhood Aditya was like any other child. Then I joined hostel in eighth standard and he also joined the hostel. From that time there was hardly any time when we were together. We used to meet only during family functions. Aditya has done BE and MBA. Of late, he is doing these kind of acts. Our father also tried to correct him. But Aditya did not listen. So we have left him.
"We spoke to Aditya last time in February 2019 when our mother died. He was at Chikkaballapur prison at that time. As he was the eldest son, we called him as we felt that it is our duty. We requested the jail authorities to allow him to attend the last rites. But he did not come. So I only, being the younger brother, had to carry out the last rituals during my mother's cremation. We are not interested to know about his acts. We have never supported him in this matter. We have fully cooperated in the investigation of the police. We have also not done any sort of help to Aditya to secure bail. We will not do also. Even we are scared of him. So we have requested the police to give us protection,” he said.
When queried that Aditya was working in the city since the past six months, Akshath Rao said, "We do not know his whereabouts. We came to know that he is working in Mangaluru only through media."
