Mandya, Jan 22: Two young men, who were hired to eliminate a merchant from the town, executed the murder plan. However, because of their own negligence, they got caught within hours of committing the crime.
After murdering the merchant, the duo was returning home. They forgot to pick a bag containing lethal weapons used for the murder. To collect the bag, they went to Channarayapatna where they were nabbed.
Those who were arrested for the crime happen to be Kishan (22) and Manish (21), both from Rajastan. The accused had entered the house of Mandya-based businessman Bundaram, at around 11.30 pm on Monday night. After locking up Bundaram's wife Chandrika, and two children in a room, they had slit the throat of Bundaram with a dagger before escaping.
A case was registered in the west police station here the same night and investigation was undertaken. Relatives of the deceased expressed the suspicion that this may be the handiwork of Chandrika, who allegedly is in relationship with a paramour. Suresh from Kunigal had hired these two young men for killing Bundaram. The two found that there were no buses to reach Kunigal from Mandya in order to collect money due to them. Therefore they travelled to Bengaluru and took the bus bound for Dharmasthala and reached Kunigal. As they were drowsy, when getting down, they left behind a bag containing arms inside the bus. The conductor had handed over the bag to the traffic controller at Channarayapatna. The accused later approached the bus stand official and came to know that their bag was at Channarayanapatna. They contacted the official at Channarayanapatna over mobile. The traffic controller then got suspicious about the bag and checked the bag. After finding weapons inside, he informed the police.
A team of policemen led by police sub-inspector Kiran Kumar, took the two into custody when they came to collect the bag.
