Belagavi: Court sentences three to life for trying to sell girls

Belagavi, Jan 21: The third district and sessions court, which also happens to be special court for SC-ST and POCSO cases, through a judgement delivered on Monday January 20, sentenced three persons accused of human trafficking, to life term rigorous imprisonment.

Those who were found guilty and sentenced as above happen to be Manjula Adiveppa Chowdappanavar (60) from Holinagalapura in Chennamma Kittur taluk, Eranagouda Annappagouda Patil (37) from Amtoor village in Bailhongala taluk, and Sandeep Paras Galaga (32) from Halaga village, Belagavi taluk.

Police personnel of Chennamm Kittur station had got information on October 5, 2015 that Manjula along with her two accomplices named above was trying to sell the girls she had brought to her home from elsewhere. She was trying to sell the girls to brothels. Police sub-inspector, Ninganagouda Patil, officer of child and women development department Aruna Neeragatti and V Susheela of 'Spandana' organiation raided the spot, arrested the accused, rescued the girls and registered suo moto case.

Judge of the court M H Annayyanavar, who examined 24 evidences, awarded rigorous lifetime imprisonment to the guilty. Fine of Rs 75,000 was also imposed on them.

    Rigorous imprisonment until death in the prison with permission for parole once in 15 years should be given as punishment.
