Bantwal, Jan 18: A murder accused, who did not attend his court hearing and was absconding, pushed one of the constables, who came to arrest him into a ditch due to which the constable got his left leg fractured.
This incident occurred on the night of Thursday, January 16 at Pucchamugeru near Siddakatte in the taluk.
Mahendra, police personnel of Bantwal rural police station is the person who was injured in the assault by the accused Nawaz (42), son of Aboobacker, a resident of Ramalakatte, Thumbay in Bantwal taluk. Mahendra is admitted to a private hospital in the city of Mangaluru.
Dakshina Kannada SP Laxmiprasad visited the injured cop and inquired about is health. A surgery is done on the left leg of the injured police personnel.
Nawaz is warrant accused in a murder attempt case in 2015. He was absconding without attending court. Head constable Madhava, police constable Mahendra and home guard staff Ravi went to arrest the accused as they got definite information that the accused Nawaz is roaming in Siddakatte vicinity of the taluk.
When the cops approached Nawaz in a bid to arrest him, he resisted and pushed constable Mahendra to a nearby ditch and tried to escape. Due to the impact of the fall, the left leg bone of the constable is broken and is admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru city. The other two police personnel were successful in nabbing the culprit.
A case in this regard is registered in Bantwal rural police station under column 324, 333, 353 of IPC and further investigation is on.
