Udupi, Oct 3: The District Congress Committee (DCC) began a day’s hunger strike in front of the KSRTC bus stand here on Friday October 2, condemning the failure of the BJP-led state administration.
The DCC alleged that the state administration is not acting responsibly on the various issues faced by distressed farmers, due to excess rains and drought in a few districts across the state. It has not taken early measures to curb the spreading of communicable diseases and also shown partiality in issuing ration cards, it said.
The committee further added that it is tragic that cabinet ministers are draining the state exchequer by undertaking foreign jaunts and enjoying holiday resorts instead of touring the state to study the various issues faced by its citizens.
The DCC alleged that the state administration had taken away the fundamental right of its citizens by arresting Congress leaders who staged protests against its misrule, recently.
Despite the union government releasing adequate funds to implement various social development projects such as Employment Guarantee Scheme, Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Electricity Scheme, and Nehru Urban Rejuvenation Scheme, the state has not effectively utilized the funds, it claimed.
MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, former MPs Manorama Madwaraj and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister Vasant V Salian, DCC president M A Gafoor, Divakar Kunder, Amrut Shenoy, Subith Kumar, Prasannna Kumar, and women’s Congress president Veronica Cornelio, were present.
