Udupi, Jan 15: Four achievers and one life time achiever of various fields are selected for the Samudayotsava-2020 awards, which will be conferred on them during the historical convention of Udupi diocese that will be held on January 19 at the Mount Rosary church grounds of Kallianpur. The programme is organized by Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh.
Journalist John D'Souza Kundapur (mass communication), progressive agriculturist Julian Danti (Paddy cultivation), social worker Roshan D'Souza Belman (social service), herbal doctor Jerome Francis Andrade Kalmadi (home medicine) are selected for the achiever award. Cooperative icon John D'Silva is chosen for lifetime achievement award.

The awards are given as per the decision of a committee of six members under the immediate-past president of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh Valerian Fernandes and the process was extremely transparent. All the applications that were received from the 52 churches under the diocese were scrutinized.
The awards will be presented to the winners in the valedictory function of Samudayotsava-2020, which will take place from 2.30 pm on January 19.
At the same time, Christian leaders of Udupi origin, who have served the community in India and abroad in various fields, will be felicitated during the programme.
The convention will be inaugurated at 9.30 am by bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo. Margaret Alva, former governor of Uttarakhand, will be the chief guest. Former MLA J R Lobo will give the keynote address on the topic 'Present situation and future of Christian Community'.
Bishop of Bengaluru Diocese Dr Peter Machado, bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, retired KAS officer Antony Mendonca, senior journalist Gabriel Vaz, senior politician of Maharashtra Janet D'Souza, MLC Ivan D'Souza, president of Christian Development Board Joylous D'Souza, president of Mumbai Model Cooperative Albert D'Souza, MCC bank president Anil Lobo and scores of religious, social, political leaders were take part in the convention.
