Moodbidri, Oct 1: Leaders of a local Billavas organization laid siege to the police station here on the evening of Wednesday September 30, in connection with an incident in which a youth had made obscene gestures at young women at Karinja Urpelpade near here. They were demanding for taking more stringent steps against the accused in the said incident.
They said that the accused, who was interrogated and then released on bail, has the potential to become a threat to the lives of the young women concerned. They demanded suitable protection for the women and stricter action against the accused. Brahmasri Narayanaguru Seva Sangh vice-president Suresh Kotian, Raghu Kotian, Sevadal president Shankar Kotian, women's wing president Lohitakshi and several others took part in the protest.
Leaders of the Sangh Parivar too took part in the siege, in support of the demands put forth by the protestors. Their leaders, Sudarshan M, K R Pandit, Bhaskar Acharya and some others took part in the programme.
Mulky circle inspector Shivaprakash Naik met the protestors and promised to properly investigate the case and take further action as may be found necessary against the accused, after which the protestors dispersed.
