Mangalore, Oct 1: All parts of the twin-districts and Uttara Kannada received good rains on Thursday. While some areas got drizzles, other places experienced torrential rains. The meteorological department has predicted rains coupled with thunder and lightning to continue for two more days in coastal areas and their hinterlands.
Cloudy weather continued to envelope the two districts. There was good rain on Thursday night too. The fishermen have been advised to exercise caution while venturing out for fishing. The level of Arabian Sea is set to experience a rise and strong waves are expected to hit the shores on Thursday October 1. The departments have been maintaining a watch on this possibility.
Honnavar and Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district got 13 cms of rain each. North Karnataka too got heavy rainfall, with several places like Bijapur and Almatti recording as high as 11 cms of rain. Karwar got 12 cms of rain. The rainfall in the twin-districts averaged four cms.
House collapse, electric short circuit, lightning and floods have caused about 28 deaths in north Karnataka that include 12 children.
