Bantwal, Sep 30: Former state minister and MLA B Ramanath Rai laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new auditorium at Benjanapadav Government Pre-university College, here on Monday September 28. The auditorium will be built at a cost of Rs 35 lac.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that in the past although students aspired to pursue further studies there was hardly any scope for them to do so owing to a lack of infrastructure. “Meanwhile, the present generations of students have ample opportunities because of compulsory education”, said Rai.
Rai is an alumnus of the same college and remembering his student days, urged the alumni to make contributions in building the auditorium. School auditorium building committee president G A Bava presided over the programme.
Mumbai entrepreneur and alumnus Raghu L Shetty and Mundappa Payyade assured that they would contribute their mite to the project.
Badabail Maria Ashram priest Fr Cyril Noronha, Ammunje Jumma Masjid Khatib Abdul Rasheed Sakafi, and Canara Pre-university College retired principal G Shankar Shetty, were the chief guests on the occasion.
Billava Sangh president Sesappa Kotian, entrepreneur Somashekar Shetty, Mahabala Alva, committee vice-president Savithri, Kariyangala gram panchayat president Prashanth Kottari, Thumbe gram panchayat president Mohammed Valavoor, engineer Sudhir Shetty, and committee treasurer Sadanand Shetty were present.
Building committee secretary Prahlad Shetty welcomed. College principal A T Girischandra delivered the introductory address.
College development and overseeing committee vice-president Chandrashekar Bhandary proposed the vote of thanks while committee auditor C Sridar compered the programme.
