Udupi, Jan 14: Police of Mangaluru and Udupi successfully arrested two suspected terrorists, who were on the run after killing on duty assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Wilson in Tamil Nadu.
State intelligence department was intensely pursuing these dreaded criminals after they got the information of their escape from their Tamil Nadu counterparts. High alert was declared in both the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi by the cops and intense search operation was on to nab the duo.
The arrested are identified as Abdul Shameem and Taufeeq. It is said that the duo have connection with the terrorists, who escaped from Coimbatore of Tamil Nadu state. High alert was declared for their arrest. State intelligence department, which gave definite information, arrested both the criminals with the help of local police.
Shameem and Taufeeq had escaped from Tamil Nadu after shooting and killing on duty special sub-inspector Wilson at the Kaliyakkavil check post on January 8. The vehicles that were passing through this check post were being subjected for intense checking in order to nab these culprits. When the duo approached the check post in their Mahindra Scorpio, they suddenly got down and shot ASI Wilson and escaped from the spot.
Police have also arrested two more people who are said to have connection with these criminals.
Home minister Basavaraj Bommai speaking to mediapersons in Chikkamagaluru clarified and said, “We have detained two suspected terrorists at Udupi Railway station, who came from Kerala.”
