Raichur, Jan 13: "Working or speaking against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is equivalent to working against the interests of our own country. Congress, which is opposing Citizenship Amendment Act, is speaking in the same language as that of Pakistan," said union minister for parliamentary affairs Prahlad Joshi.
He was speaking to mediapersons at the travellers’ bungalow at Yeramarus near the city on Sunday January 12. "The opposition parties, in their enthusiasm to oppose whatever Modi does, have been working against the interests of their own country. The Congress, which is frustrated by a chain of defeats, is fighting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), having been driven by the sole aim of seeking revenge," he alleged. He said that the union government has already issued notification, implementing the said act all over the country. He termed the stand taken by the Congress and opposition parties to fight against the act at this juncture as outright wrong.
Joshi pointed out that since the last several years, lacs of people have sneaked into India without authorisation. He charged the opposition parties, who are expected to raise their voices against this phenomenon, of choosing to keep quiet all these days. "The Congress, which follows the only agenda of appeasing the minorities, has been misleading them in the matter of CAA. Have U T Khader and Zameer Ahmed Khan of the Congress faced any problem because of this act? I want the Congress to come out with an explanation about the basic purpose for which they are fighting against the said act," he
said.
Joshi pointed out his party does not enjoy majority in the Rajya Sabha. "We gave approval to the bill only after holding detailed discussions with NDA and other allies and getting unequivocal support. We have achieved something which the Congress failed to do all these years. Now they are opposing this act out of frustration. We are aware that the opposition to the act is considerably fierce in states ruled by the BJP," he stated.
He charged former chief minister of Karnataka H D Kumaraswamy, of speaking on hit-and-run style. He termed the CD released by Kumaraswamy relating to Mangaluru disturbances as fake. "No one has the right to attack others. The police have already clarified their stand. Kumaraswamy is dismayed by the fact that his legislators are leaving the JD(S). Unable to digest this development, he is making false allegations. Investigation is going on, and it does not behove a former chief minister to make allegations against those who have ordered for a probe," he felt.
