Mangalore, Sep 28: An information camp on media was held at Frad Saib Hall of Holy Cross parish, Cordel, here on Sunday September 27. The camp was organized as part of diamond jubilee celebrations of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Cordel parish unit.
Cordel Holy Cross parish priest and ICYM parish unit spiritual director Fr Valerian Pinto presided. ICYM parish unit former president Oliver Lobo, co-ordinator Susheel Noronha, unit president Alwyn Tauro, secretary Precilla Sequeira and resource person Agnel Rodrigues were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Oliver Lobo said that the media generates variety of opinions among the viewers and readers as they flash the breaking news on real time. The media also creates awareness in the society, he added.
Fr Valerian Pinto in his presidential address said that the media has the capacity to build or tarnish the reputation of an individual. It is essential to make the best of media, to be an effective tool, in order to address various issues and seek justice, he emphasized.
Prasar Konkani Coastal Times proprietor Agnel Rodrigues, in his key note address said that pen is mightier than sword. The reporter should take into consideration, a few aspects while reporting on any issue. The report should be crisp, interesting with free flow of language and focus on positive aspects, he urged.
Cordel assistant parish priests Fr Arun Lobo and Fr Rajesh Rosario as well as assistant co-ordinator Noel D’Souza were present. Over 47 parish ICYM members attended the camp.
