Mangaluru, Jan 11: To mark the centenary year of All India Catholic Union (AICU) organized an inter-religious meet on the theme 'My Religion and My Brotherhood' at C M Hall, St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangaluru, presided over the programme.
Addressing the gathering, M B Puranik, of Vishwa Hindu Parishad said, “Hindu religion always teaches brotherhood and tolerance. It upholds the culture of unity and brotherhood. It does not hate other religions. It teaches equality and justice to everyone."
Mohammad Baddor, well-known writer said, “Every religion teaches peace and love. But we are not trying to know the original theme of religions. We simply fight in the name of religion and places of worship. Our ego makes us look at fellow beings as enemies. By this, we insulting God as well as our own religion. Change should come from within. The educated should take responsibility to educate people about religion and its oneness.”
In his presidential speech Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha said, “God is one and he created the entire world and humans. But we humans created many Gods and started fighting with each other. Holy book of every religion teaches peace and love. Humanity is the true religion everyone should follow.”
Bhramakumari Vishweshwari of Bhrama Kumaris, Muniraja Renjala, Jain priest, and Fr Joseph Martis were present on the dais.
Fr Clifford Fernandes moderated the event. Lancy D’Cunha, president, AICU, welcomed the gathering, and Rolphie D’Costa rendered the vote of thanks.
