Mangaluru, Aug 30: A Dubai-bound passenger was detained at Mangaluru International Airport here on Saturday, January 11, for carrying a bundle of undocumented foreign currencies totalling Rs 5.48 lac.
The officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detected the currencies while frisking the passenger on Thursday.
At about 6.30 am on Saturday, during screening of baggage at the airport, CISF official observed some suspicious image in the hand baggage of a passenger namely Shahul Hameed, who was supposed to travel by spice jet flight SG 059 for Dubai. The officials found US dollars (76x100), Chinese currency (1000x10 and 110x10), Malaysia currency (50x1, 10x01 and 1x3), and Turkey currency (10x2) valued approximately Rs 5,48,000.
The recovered currency along with the passenger was handed over to Customs officials for further action. Custom officials offloaded the passenger and initiated investigation.
