Udupi, Sep 27: 'Vidyaposhak Book Bank' set up at Yakshagana Kalaranga here, was inaugurated by senior Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, Sri Vishweshateertha, on Friday September 26 morning.
In his address on the occasion, the Swamiji noted that getting education has become very costly now-a-days and getting higher education sometimes, is beyond the reach of common people, particularly so because of the high cost of the books. Such book banks can be very helpful to economically poor students to get education. The students should borrow books, read them, improve their knowledge and ensure that their knowledge comes in handy for the next generation, he advised.
With book banks, the students acquire a sense of responsibility while enriching their knowledge. They should be grateful for the facility offered by the book bank to them and when they grow up and come up in life, they should set up book banks for the benefit of others, and become models for the others to emulate, he advised.
Pejawar Mutt junior Swamiji, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha, Dr P V Bhandary and Yakshagana Kalaranga president Tallur Shivaram Shetty were present.
Kalaranga secretary, Murali Kadekar, delivered introductory address. It was informed that the main office of the book bank is located at the house of Sudha Murty, wife of the Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies, N R Narayanamurty, located at Hubli. Initially, the book bank plans to provide the students with books worth one lac rupees and serve five junior colleges. It has plans to increase its membership strength to 500 by next year. The membership fee for the book bank is Rs 100.
