Mangaluru, Jan 6: MLC Ivan D'Souza said that permission should not be given to Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Mangaluru on January 19.
Addressing media here on Monday, January 6, D'Souza said that the time is not right. "If home minister Amit Shah visits Mangaluru on January 19, it may disturb the peace of the district. If Amit Shah arrives, we will hold 'Go back Amit Shah' protest. He needs to postpone his visit to Mangaluru. I also urge district administration and police department to deny permission for his visit.
"It is for the first time that the entire nation has united against NRC and CAA. But still, the union government is adamant on implementing both. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saying that NRC and CAA will not be implemented but Amit Shah says we will not step back in implementing NRC and CAA. The leaders are creating confusion among people. Now they have set out to create awareness on NRC and CAA by visiting homes. While bringing this law, why were the Muslims excluded? They claim to treat every religion equally. They should have also included Muslims," he said.
Referring to the statement made by BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy where he said that 'Hindus make 80 per cent of the population and will retaliate, Ivan D'Souza said, "He spoke about the agenda of BJP and the intention behind the implementation of NRC and CAA. BJP leaders are defending the statement made by BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy. Are they courageous enough to take action against the MLA? We demand that he is expelled from the party."
MLC Harish Kumar said, "The students of JNU were attacked. A student leader was severely injured and Delhi Police are silent on this assault. It is said that ABVP are behind the attack of JNU students."
"We also urge action against BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy for this statement. His statement was antinational and he needs to be expelled," said Harish Kumar.
