Mangalore: Formal Launch of Community Radio SARANG 107.8 fm on Sep 23

Mangalore, Sep 21: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangalore will launch Community Radio Sarang 107.8 FM on Wednesday, 23 September 2009 at 10:30am at St Aloysius College (SAC).
H.R. Bharadwaj, Governor of Karnataka, Dr M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law and Justice, Dr V. S. Acharya, Home Minister, Government of Karnataka, Rt Dr Aloysius P.D’Souza (Bishop of Mangalore), Fr Francis Serrao SJ (Provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province) and Nalin Kumar Kateel (MP) will be present for the event.
The inauguration will be followed by a formal program jointly organised by the Mangalore branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Radio SARANG 107.8, St Aloysius College. While Governor H.R Bharadwaj will speak on ‘Mass Media and Social Responsibility’, Dr Moily will speak on ‘Challenges to Law in the 21st Century in the Context of Cyber Crimes’ and Dr V.S. Acharya on ‘Vision Karnataka 2020’.
Sarang is the first Community Radio Station in Mangalore and is managed by the Dept. of Mass Communication and Media Studies, St Aloysius College, with the help of local communities and other students from SAC and other colleges.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting assigned a frequency of 107.8 MHz to Sarang, and will air programmes in Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, English, Malayalam and in Beary languages. Sarang caters to the development needs of the local community.
