Kuwait: Belwak Celebrates Monti FestMedia Release
Kuwait, Sep 21: Born of parents, Joachim and Anna, the arrival of Mary gave a glimmer of light to the world, for through her dawned the Son of Righteousness, Christ our God. The feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated as Monthi Fest by Mangalorean Catholics with religious fervor and gaiety. Monthi Fest coincides with the harvest festival i.e. the arrival of the new crop. The members of Belman Welfare Association Kuwait (BELWAK) along with family and friends met at the residence of Vincent Andrade and Jeffery Mendonca on Friday September 18, 2009 to celebrate the birthday of Mary. It was an evening which symbolized a perfect blend of solemnity and merriment.
A beginning to the celebration was made by Celine Pinto with a thanksgiving prayer, followed by recitation of Roasary led by Rita Rodrigues and a hymn "Sakkad Sangatha Melyan ani Morriyek Hogalsiyan" was sung in unison by one and all. Flowers were offered and Blessed Novem in Milk was served to the gathering.
President Tony DCruz thanked BELWAK's members for their support and contribution towards the cause that BELWAK stands for. He welcomed Consultant Francis Menezes and the supportive Winnie. Also welcomed was notable activist Louis Rodrigues. The festive message was given by Stanislaus Martis, who likened Mother Mary to a flower and wished that the women of our families are respected and honored because they are the flowers of our families. St. Augustine tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of Mary's birth. She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed." In the midst of the celebration, Consultant Francis conducted various spot prizes and entertained the gathering with humorous jokes. Housie-Housie game was conducted towards the close. Vice-President Henry D’Mello gave the vote of thanks. Traditional Vegetarian “Novem Jevann” prepared by Spinns/Royal Plaza Restaurant was relishing and by and large was an added joy to the celebration. The entire proceedings was compered by Ex President Clifford D’Souza.
