Mangaluru: MLC urges PM to restore compensation to victims of recent violence

Mangaluru, Jan 3: MLC B M Farookh, has written a letter dated January 2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extending to him a warm welcome on his current visit to the state.

He has drawn the attention of Modi to certain irresponsible statements and speeches made by leaders representing the ruling party. "The minorities have become panicky on account of certain policies of the government. Instead of alleviating their fears, some leaders have been inciting hatred and intolerance. During the protests in Mangaluru, two persons died in police firing and the government had promptly announced compensation to the family members of these two. However, later, the compensation was withdrawn for no plausible reason" he stated.

Noting that many have expressed anger at this sudden reversal of stand by the government, duly treating it as an inhuman act, he has urged the prime minister to rise above politics and see that the compensation promised to bereaved families is disbursed without delay.

    The compensation is firstly for the gross mistake of taking away lives. Things could have been controlled in a better fashion. The videos showing the policemen speaking that there was not even a single death speaks volumes. Secondly on humanitarian grounds that firing took away sole breadwinners.

    As for labeling the victims stone pelters, why is it that the police revealed vedios after a week? It's been more than two weeks since the incident, have there been any videos which proved that those killed were the ones who pelted stones?
    Worst case, have you seen any country awarding a merciless death for stone pelting? Per UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 11, one is innocent until proved guilty.

    Giving compensation to the wailing families who lost everything and revoking it - Sounds any human? Appears like a care-taker giving milk to a crying child and snatching it away before he could drink. Not to forget t's a mere 10 Lakh amount.
    Sure thing that Mr. Farookh is well aware Mangalore is capable raising a bigger amount within 24 hours.

    Those who want to protest against the government again - wondering what is that they want to achieve? Spark more unrest in a communally sensitive area and invite more trouble?

    Mr.Farook should also explain the reason for giving compensation.
    Agreed with Mr. Farooq few good for nothing BJP MLA's and MP's giving irresponsible statements.

    When gujjar jaat dera agitation happened there was stone pelters lot of public property was damaged then y did bjpee compensate y double standard now...chaddi nahi soch badlo😀

    Shaan, Mangalore/Riyadh . I agree with you Sir, some minorities as always stay indoors and bash Modi/RSS /BJP day in day out. When help is required for a normal protest against the Govt, Its just silence for a week or 2 and then they again reappear online pretending to be supporters.
