Mangaluru, Dec 30: Ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Mangaluru city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha issued advisory orders to ensure public safety.
He said, “The New Year’s Eve is just a day away. Hotels, resorts or any organization that are organizing New Year parties, need to ask permission with the police and also possess written permission to conduct parties. The New Year celebrations should wind up by 12:05 am. An additional 15 minutes will be given for people to disperse.

“There are various others departments where the organisers need to take permission for New Year celebrations. The rules prescribed by the concerned departments need to be followed. Permission from excise department is mandatory, wherever alcohol is served. If anyone is organising New Year celebrations using public funds, the organisers should make sure that precautionary measures such as fire safety, fire fighting equipment, and ambulance are in place. The alcohol shops need to be closed before 11 pm and the conditions prescribed by the excise department needs to be followed. If anyone wants to keep shops open till 12 am, permission from excise department is mandatory.
"During the New Year celebrations, women safety is very important. Those who harass women during the celebration will not be spared. Wherever public celebrations are organised, women volunteers have to be deployed for the safety of women. CCTV cameras have to be installed,” he said.
He also stressed on following traffic rules, especially parking vehicles only in designated parking zones. “In case of haphazard parking, the organisers will be booked. The organisers should not allow entry to the minors except minors accompanied by their parents.”
“Noise pollution rules need to be followed. The sound should not exceed the prescribed decibel limit. In the name of cultural programmes, no illegal activity should take place.
"Abbakka Pade women police and constables will be deployed in the events and will keep an eye on every one. No one should misbehave with the women during any New Year’s event,” he said.
"People should not consume alcohol and party in the public places such as grounds, open streets, railway stations and create nuisance. Stringent action will be taken against those who violate rules. Wheeling, violating traffic rules and disturbing public peace will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken. We urge parents to keep close watch on their children. Do not drink and drive and do not burst crackers in sensitive places," the commissioner warned.
“In the name of wishing, do not illegally enter ladies hostel compounds. Criminal cases will be booked against people who indulge in illegal activities and disrupt peace,” he said.
