Kundapur: CM sets in motion Holapu sports festival, cultural programme of elected representatives

Kundapur, Dec 28: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa inaugurated as part of Dr Shivarama Karanth birth anniversary, Holapu sports festival programme and cultural competitions of Dakshina Kannada district panchayat raj and local district administration at Kota Vivek educational institute premises on Dec 28. “The panchayat raj system should be strengthened and village level schemes should be implemented minutely, for the development of villages,” he said.

“There are plans to make villages trash-free using Rs 20 lac from the centre and solar lighting in 602 gram panchayat buildings in the state,” he said.

Former MP Jayaprakash Hegde received flag salute. District panchayat president Dinaker Babu lighted sports light. District panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu administered oath.

MP Shobha Karnadlaje, minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Captain Ganesh Karnik, Kotatattu gram panchayat president Raghu Thingalaya and others were present.

Nearly 9000 people representatives and staff from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts gram panchayats, zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats, corporation and other organizations were present.

The chief minister did not respond to minister Kota Srinivas Poojary’s wishes. He went to other programme. Parking facilities were made at Shambhavi School, Kota. The lines of the vehicles extended till about three kilometers. Tight police security was provided.

The glamour of annual Holapu programme increases every year. The unique costumes of panchayat representatives were a special attraction.
