Udupi: Malpe beach festival from December 29

Udupi, Dec 27: “There are plans to develop all the beaches so as to obtain blue flag approval. Rs five crore each are approved for the development of Someshwar beach and Maravanthe beach. Preparations are on to celebrate Kaup Light festival in January,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.

He was speaking in the news conference held in Satyamurthi auditorium here on Friday, December 27.

“Malpe beach festival 2019 will be celebrated from December 29 to December 31 in the cooperation of Udupi district administration, municipal council, youth empowerment and sports department, Malpe development committee Nirmithi Kendra, horticulture department, coastal tourism department and local Bhajana Mandali,” he said.

“The beach festival programme will be inaugurated on December 29. Drawings competitions for children, volleyball for men and throw ball for women, sand sculptor, kite flying, dog exhibition and competition, cultural programmes by Anjali dance troupe and well known groups of Udupi will present cultural programme in order to provide increased opportunities to local teams,” he said.

Janapada fair and Kabaddi tournaments for men in flood lights are planned. Well-known artistes in the coast will present musical programme ‘Rasa Manjari’ and dances. International fame artistes will present film show. Artistes from Kerala will perform dances. There will be fireworks from midnight till 12.30 am to welcome New Year on December 31” he said.

Udupi municipal council president Anand Kallolikar, Kannada and culture department assistant director Kumar Bekkeri, tourism department assistant director Chandrashekar Nayak, Nirmithi center project director Arun Kumar, Youth empowerment and sports department assistant director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty were present.
