Bengaluru, Dec 27: MP Tejasvi Surya, who had given a controversial statement against the people who protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) bill has justified his statement.
Tejasvi received severe backlash for his earlier statement, in which he said, "Violence is being conducted by people who are illiterate and who do the job repairing puncture of tyres."
Defending his statement, MP Tejasvi Surya said, "I have done many good works. Nobody is speaking about them. I have given hundreds of statements earlier also. But now I am being targeted only for one statement."
Replying to a query whether National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and CAA has spoiled the image of BJP, Tejasvi said, "Definitely not. This has opened up the emptiness of opposition political parties."
Responding to the assembly election results of Maharashtra and Jharkhand, in which BJP has received setback, MP Tejasvi Surya said, "Still BJP is the single largest party. We have lost around 7% of seats. Devendra Fadnavis is still a renowned leader. In Jharkhand, there is opposition to the administration of BJP in some pockets. We have lost some powers. But the national leadership of the party will resolve this. I am not in a position to give any statement on this matter."
"The main people, who are protesting against NRC, CAA and National Population Register (NPR), are Congress leaders. BJP is trying to make these as laws. If Manmohan Singh would have brought this act, it would have been termed as secular. But as it is brought into action by Narendra Modi it is depicted as communal. Congress is creating panic throughout the country with regards to the act. India belongs to Indian Hindus, Indian Muslims and other Indians. Wrong information is being spread about CAA and NRC," said MP Tejasvi.
When Tejasvi was asked by the scribes as to what he has learned as an MP in the past seven months, he said, "I have learned to listen to the words of the people completely and trying to understand their thoughts and emotions."
