Ramanagara, Dec 26: Former minister D K Shivakumar, laid foundation stone for the carving of the world's tallest, 114 feet tall statue of Jesus Christ on the holy occasion of Christmas on Wednesday December 25. Apart from laying the foundation stone at Kapalibetta in Harobele village in Kanakapura taluk of the district, he viewed the model statue kept nearby.
The statue will come up at Kapalibetta where D K Shivaumar has acquired ten acres of land from the government by spending own funds. On this occasion, documents relating to handing over of the land to the trust that will shoulder the responsibility of installing the statue there were handed over by Shivakumar along with his brother D K Suresh, who represents Bengaluru (rural) Lok Sabha constituency.
Out of the total height of 114 feet, 13 feet of the statue would be comprised of steps, which have already been laid. The foundation stone laying process was done by worshipping the stone on the right foot segment of the Lord.
As much as 99 percent of Harobele village population comprises of Christians. They expressed gratefulness to Shivakumar and D K Suresh for undertaking this initiative. MLC S Ravi, Chinnnaraju who represents the trust, and others were present.
