Kannur, Dec 25: Five persons have been arrested for blocking Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa's convoy on Tuesday December 24.
The arrested are Jithin Kadannapalli, Akhil Peringoth, Shibin Taliparamba, Jijesh Pazhayangadi and Sanil Madayi.
Among the arrested, Jithin, Akhil and Shibin are members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), and Jijesh and Sanil are Youth Congress members.
The arrests were made on Tuesday night, media reports said.
All the five have been booked under non-bailable sections and remanded.
It may be recalled that on Tuesday, dozens of activists belonging to Youth Congress, Kerala Students' Union and DYFI had blocked Yediyurappa's convoy at Kannur's Pazhayangadi junction and raised slogans against him. The CM was on a private visit to Madayikavu Temple. The protesting against the detention of Kerala journalists in Mangaluru a day after protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act rocked the city and curfew was imposed.
The police had detained 11 Youth Congress members, but later released them after registering a case. Ten DYFI members were also detained from Taliparamba for blocking Yediyurappa's convoy. They too were released.
