Udupi: Pejawar Swamiji's condition serious but stable, say doctors

Udupi, Dec 24: The health condition of Pejawar Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji continuous to be serious but stable. A release from the doctors at the KMC Hospital Manipal where the Swamiji is under treatment said that doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, have been in regular contact with the medical team.

Pejawar Math junior Swamiji, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, told the reporters that X-ray was done on the Swamiji on Sunday night and MRI scan was planned on Monday night. After checking the results, the doctors plan to bring necessary changes if any to the method of treatment, he stated.

Former union minister and disciple of Pejwar Swamiji, Uma Bharti, who is sick, arrived in a wheel chair and discussed with the doctors and the junior Swamiji. She said that she was ordained into the path of Sanyasa (celibacy, giving up worldly pleasures) three decades back by the Swamiji, and that he was treating her as his own daughter. She hailed him as a leading social reformer. "Prime Minster and union health minster have expressed concern about the Swamiji's health condition. The doctors are doing their best. I pray for his early recovery," she stated.

M B Patil, front runner in the vociferous demand for separate religion status for Lingayat that was opposed by Pejawar Swamiji, wished that the Swamiji lives to be a hundred years old. He said that the country and society needs his guidance. "Even though we have differences of opinion ideologically, we also agree on certain issues. I Pray to Basavanna for the Swamiji's early return to health," he said during his visit on Monday night.

Udupi Bishop, Fr Gerald Isaac Lobo, visited and enquired about the health condition of the Swamiji. He said that he has been in constant touch with the Swamiji since the last seven years and wished that the Swamiji will recover speedily. Sri Nirmalanandateertha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math, well-known vocalist, Vidyabhusana etc also visited. It is said that former chief minister, Siddaramaiah, cancelled his visit to Udupi at the last minute and returned to Bengaluru from Mangaluru. M B Patil requested the concerned not to misconstrue his cancellation of visit. "He was very tired and hence went back. He will come again by a special helicopter in three to four days’ time," Patil added.
