Mangaluru, Dec 22: Mobile internet data which was taken off on the night of Thursday, December 19 due to the disturbance and subsequent police firing in the city, which claimed two lives, has been restored.
Mobile internet data had been suspended for 48 hours after protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 19.
Internet services were restored in the city from 10 pm of Saturday, December 21.
Sources claimed that the suspension of internet helped in bringing down the intensity of the protest and creating any further disturbance in the district as it prevented spread of rumours and fake news. It also helped in prevention of any further coordinated protests.
Together with curfew, the suspension of internet also contributed to bringing the situation under control within a short period of time. Though the public has faced inconvenience due to the stoppage of internet services, it has helped a great deal for the city administration to bring life back to normalcy in the city.
The police have warned the public not to indulge in misuse of the internet services to incite any kind of violence or protests. They have urged public not to share or write any provocative messages that may lead to disturbance of peace and harmony in the society.
