Mangaluru, Dec 21: The curfew imposed on the second day in the commissionerate caused problems for people. It created hardship to students going to their hometown, for those in need of groceries and vehicle drivers.

A few shops were opened when the curfew was relaxed in the morning at Thokkottu, Talapady, Kuthar, Deralakatte, Kotekar, Talapady and Ullal which allowed the customers to rush for their purchases. Long lines of parked vehicles parked were found at petrol bunks. Police beat customers and shop owners with sticks after two hours forcing the shopkeepers to bring down their shutters leaving many people to return empty-handed.

Kerala vehicles blocked:

Karnataka police stopped all the vehicles approaching from Kerala at Talapady. More than 100 lorries are lined up since Friday evening. Lorry drivers spent a day without food and water. Police made way for ambulance and emergency vehicles. Local vehicles plied via inside roads. Police on duty at Thokkottu directed vehicles going toward Kerala from Thokkottu to proceed via Mudipu road.

Hostel students in quandary:

Medical and engineering students waited in vain since morning for vehicles to go home for the weekend. They reached Mangaluru railway station after waiting for several hours by the roadside by a few of auto rickshaws. Some institutes transported their students to the railway station by their buses.
