Bengaluru, Dec 19: Former Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, announced that he does not desire to become chief minister (CM) again, even if his party rises to power in the state. He was addressing a press meet held here on Wednesday December 18.
"I have no desire of becoming CM again. I am not despaired by the bypoll debacle. At the same time, I am not surrendering. JD(S) will not make an effort to dismantle this government that has seized power through Operation Lotus," he explained.
Kumaraswmay said that he is not interested to become state JD(S) president. "I will continue to do everything possible to strengthen our party's organization. I have requested all the leaders to stay with the party. I have told them that if the party rises to power, the power will be shared with them," he stated.
Kumaraswamy pointed out that bypoll defeat does not finish the prospects of a party. He recollected that the Congress had won both Nanjangud and Gundlupet constituencies in the bypoll and Siddaramaiah had announced that he would become chief minister. But he said Siddaramaiah lost his power and also the above two constituencies during the general election.
It is gathered that Kumaraswamy, who is eager to shed 'family party' tag of the JD(S), has instructed his son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, to step down as the president of the party's youth unit. Nikhil has agreed to resign. Even though Prajwal Revanna is interested to occupy this seat, being a family member, he will be denied this seat, it is said. At the same time, current state JD(S) president, H K Kumaraswamy, has been asked to continue in that post at least for now.
