Dubai, Dec 17: The city's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday warned that private driving lessons are unauthorized and punishable by a fine of Dh 10,000. The authority added that using an unlicensed vehicle for providing driving courses is also punishable by a Dh 5,000 fine.
According to Arabic Daily Emarat Al Youm, many individuals post ads for giving driving courses, charging Dh 50 to Dh 100 per session. The report added that many people apply for such illegal courses, in an attempt to sign up for fewer lessons at genuine driving institutions in the emirate, which sometimes cost more.
Many ads also claimed to help trainees pass the RTA test, the report said, adding that the sessions were usually carried out on internal roads to avoid raising suspicions.
Yousef Al Ali, the CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, said that such violations are not common as the authority monitors such ads online.
He urged the public not to take such lessons, stressing that any aspiring motorist must enrol in an authorized driving institution in the country. He added that driving institutes have trained instructors who are prepared to handle the risks.
