Puttur: St Philomena Autonomous College conducts student council elections 2024-25

Puttur, Nov 26: The student council election for the academic year 2024-25 was held at the Spandana Seminar Hall, of the College.

The election process began with an inspiring address by Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal of the college where he advised the aspirants for the positions of office bearers of the student council to approach their responsibilities with dedication, integrity, and a vision to uphold the values of the institution irrespective of their winning or losing in the election.

He emphasized that leadership is not about authority but about service, collaboration, and setting an example for their peers. He encouraged them to strive for an inclusive and vibrant campus environment that nurtures academic excellence and holistic development.

Twenty-one student representatives from various classes and associations, including NSS, NCC, sports, and cultural bodies, assembled to elect the office-bearers for the council.

The candidates contending for the position of student president were Manoj K from III BBA and Heckson Fernandes from III BCA, while Rohan Rai from III BBA and Fathimath Athoofa from III BCA contested for the post of secretary.

Simran Taj from III BCom was unanimously elected as the joint secretary in the absence of other contenders. Each candidate was given an opportunity to address the voters, articulating their vision and commitment to the council, after which the representatives cast their votes.

Under the meticulous supervision of Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, the chief counting officer, the votes were counted with transparency and fairness. The results declared Heckson Fernandes as the president and Fathimath Athoofa as the secretary. Principal Dr Monteiro extended his best wishes to the newly elect office bearers for a successful and impactful tenure. Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, registrar (academics) and Vinayachandra registrar (evaluation) were present on the occasion.

The election proceedings were managed by the student welfare officers, Dr Radhakrishna Gowda and Spearl Fiona Pereira.
