Margao, Sep 9: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), Lord Ganesh devotees and other devout Hindus organized protest rallies in Margao, Mapusa and Bicholim recently, to protest against artist Dr Subodh Kerkar, for allegedly painting nude and derogatory paintings of Lord Ganesha and displaying them at his exhibition and also against one of the newspapers of Goa for giving publicity to this exhibition, thereby supporting the artist in his efforts to denigrate Hindu Gods.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has termed Dr Kerkar as being anti-Hindu and has raised serious objections against his action in playing with the Hindu sentiments through the derogatory depiction of the Elephant God.
The protest rallies were taken out, after offering worship to the ‘Dharma-dhvaj’ and breaking of the auspicious coconut.
An effigy of Dr Subodh was made and ladies present at the rally gave vent to their anger by hitting the effigy with chappals.
