Bengaluru, Dec 17: During the phone-in programme of state primary and secondary education minister, S Suresh Kumar, on Monday December 16, the minister said that it has been decided to give 30 minutes extra time for students appearing for SSLC second language - English examination.
The minister also asked cluster level officials to put up proposals to appoint Karate trainers for schools.
A tenth standard student from Hubballi, Suresh, drew the minister's attention to the fact that students find that the time allotted to answer SSLC second language - English, is insufficient. The minister, responding to his request for extra time, said that the department has already taken steps in this direction.
The calls covered several issues including uniforms, delay in distribution of bicycles, 'Ksheerabhagya' scheme, change in question paper model, shortage of teachers etc. Many children wanted to know whether conducting public examination for seventh standard is necessary. The minister said that a decision on this issue will be announced towards serving the interests of the students.
When a tenth standard student, Suchita from Herur in Koppa taluk, said that walking to school alone through forests gives her jitters, and hence students like her are badly in need of Karate training, the minister asked officials to propose for such an appointment. When another student said that guest teachers’ appointment has not been made even though the academic year is drawing closer, the minister said that from next year onward, guest teachers will be appointed from June 1 onward.
