Kundapur, Dec 15: The family of a woman who died during childbirth on Sunday December 15 alleged that medical negligence on the part of the doctor was responsible for the woman's death.
Sujatha (27), wife of Sudhir Devadiga who does centring work, was admitted to Kundapur general hospital on December 11. She was eight months pregnant at the time. Her family members alleged that even though her scan reports clearly showed that normal delivery was not possible, her doctor insisted that caesarean was not required and she could deliver normally.
On December 13, Sujatha experienced severe labour pains and urged the doctor to perform caesarean on her, but the doctor reportedly refused. On December 14, Sujatha delivered a healthy baby girl, but soon after started bleeding profusely. Her health deteriorated and she even lost consciousness.
The doctor who grew frantic at this immediately shifted Sujatha to a private hospital where an emergency hysterectomy was done. However, Sujatha's life could not be saved.
The family has said that now they have been asked to pay Rs 2 lac in hospital charges, which Sudhir says he is unable to afford. "Dr Rajini's negligence is responsible for my wife's death. If justice is not done in the matter, we will file a case against the doctor," he said.
