Kundapur, Dec 15: The family of a woman who died during childbirth on Sunday December 15 alleged that medical negligence on the part of the doctor was responsible for the woman's death.

Sujatha (27), wife of Sudhir Devadiga who does centring work, was admitted to Kundapur general hospital on December 11. She was eight months pregnant at the time. Her family members alleged that even though her scan reports clearly showed that normal delivery was not possible, her doctor insisted that caesarean was not required and she could deliver normally.

On December 13, Sujatha experienced severe labour pains and urged the doctor to perform caesarean on her, but the doctor reportedly refused. On December 14, Sujatha delivered a healthy baby girl, but soon after started bleeding profusely. Her health deteriorated and she even lost consciousness.

The doctor who grew frantic at this immediately shifted Sujatha to a private hospital where an emergency hysterectomy was done. However, Sujatha's life could not be saved.

The family has said that now they have been asked to pay Rs 2 lac in hospital charges, which Sudhir says he is unable to afford. "Dr Rajini's negligence is responsible for my wife's death. If justice is not done in the matter, we will file a case against the doctor," he said.

Very sad... May her soul rest in peace.. She lost her precious life just because of Doctor's negligence. Poor child by birth only lost its mother. Top of that Doctor claiming Rs.2 Lacs. Instead Doctor must compensate..

Hospital is not a spa/beauty parlour where patient/patient party decides what needs to be done..it is done by the gyenacologist who after examining the pt decides what best can be done...this is probably a case of post partum hemorrhage..which happpens (130 per 1lakh deliveries) after delivery..which is very difficult to manage..death usually happpens in 60 to 70% cases...pph happed 10 yrs back..happens today n will happen 10 yrs afer also..its very unfortunate bt we should accept the reality that complications do happen...u have all the rights to demand justice by asking for an enquiry..if any negligence is proven then obv punishment will be given..wthout knowing abcd of medicine ppl like u will jump to a conclusion n blame evrything on doctors....who r u to say cancel her license. because u have the right to speak dont utter ..thank you.

Do you know details of the case?
Is it correct for you to put blind allegations without going through entire investigation?
Don't you think proper investigation should take place before you say such thing?
