Byndoor, Dec 15: "The quality of the four-lane road work from Tallur to Shiroor in Byndoor is not good enough. The loss of life and property that have already happened here is likely occur again. Therefore, the highway should be set right soon," said former MLA K Gopal Poojary.
He was speaking at the end of protest rally conducted by Byndoor and Vandse block Congress activists from Maravanthe to Byndoor on Saturday December 14.
"Service road should be constructed wherever the density of residents is more. Drains are required for flow of rain water. The flow of rain water on highway entering the fields and houses should be prevented. An underpass should be constructed at Yadthare junction to prevent likely danger. Bus stops should be constructed everywhere. Destroyed panchayat drinking water pipes should be repaired or replaced. The lapses have been brought to the notice of the DC and senior district officials. They will be approached again," he said.
District Congress vice-president S Raj Poojary said that the directions in the past by MP Oscar Fernandes in meetings held in Shiroor and Byndoor should be followed. "There are preparations to collect toll in Shiroor despite incomplete work. We strongly oppose it. We will hold strong protests in such circumstances," he warned.
KPCC member S Prakashchandra Shetty, Byndoor block Congress president S Madankumar, Vandse block president Pradeep Kumar Shetty, district committee treasurer S Vasudev Yadiyal, youth unit president Shekar Poojary, ladies wing representative Manjula, office-bearers and others were present.
Tahsildar Basappa P Poojary who arrived at the spot and received a list of demands said that he will forward them to the government. National highway authority executive engineer Chennayya and contracting company project director Yogendrappa who were present, were given copies of the demands urging for suitable action.
Gopal Poojary flagged off the rally at Maravanthe in the morning. Hundreds of activists including women ignoring sunshine took part in 15-kilometer long rally till Byndoor, shouting slogans of demands, condemning highway authority and contractor IRB company.
