Puttur, Dec 9: The Uppinangady police intercepted a container that was transporting large quantity of beef illegally. They confiscated 800 kg beef as well as the container vehicle and arrested one person.

The police undertook operation near Gundia in Shiradi village based on reliable information. When they were checking vehicles, they saw a container that was moving suspiciously. They stopped the vehicle, and found during check that beef was loaded in the container truck in order to avoid getting noticed.

The lorry driver, identified as Rizwan from Bandar, was taken into custody and questioned. He said that he was carrying beef that was prepared at the illegal slaughterhouse located at Chennarayanapatna and that the stock was meant for being delivered to Zulfikar at Mangaluru.

The stock of beef valued at Rs two lac, and vehicle worth about Rs 10 lac were impounded. Uppinangady police have registered a case. Probe is on.

    It is good that police are acting on illegal transport of beef ...!!!!!! But where is the same police department, when India is exporting beef...???? It means that poor Indians who can afford only beef (not any more...I remember boneless beef was available in Mangalore in 1991...only for 18 rupees per kilo!!!!) and the foreigners can only Indian beef by India....?????? I do not understand the logic behind this...can anyone enlighten my bird brain please.....!!!!!?????

    N M Mangalore.you say let people eat anything they want. I totally agree with you. But here the fact is the beef was being carried illegally without proper paper work. It is a matter of public health .

    Seizing the vehicle because you don't eat beef is equal to Nirmala Sitaram not doing anything about high onion prices. She too doesn't eat them. Irony is that she wants the export to continue enslessly !
