Air India Plane Engine Catches Fire in Mumbai, Passengers Safe

IANS

Mumbai, Sep 4: Nearly 215 passengers and crew of a Riyadh-bound Air India flight had a narrow escape here Friday morning when they were evacuated quickly after one of the plane's engines caught fire while proceeding for take-off.

The fire was noticed by the ground staff while the aircraft had begun to taxi toward the runway and was immediately doused, Air India spokesperson Jitendra Bhargava said. The AI 829 flight was bound for Saudi Arabia's capital.

"The fire was in one of the engines. It was noticed during push back (during the taxiing after doors were ordered shut). It was immediately extinguished. All 213 passengers plus crew were evacuated. They are all safe," Bhargava told IANS.

"The passengers will be sent to Riyadh later today," he added.

Guy''s please be cool.. for an airline company, their aircrafts health is more important than your life..! Hence they will definitely do good to save their aircraft.. Please accept the fact that accidents do happen and are not intentional, by killing you they ( Airliner) wont gain anything...

Hats off to the people who alerted and averted the possible disaster. Human personnel over too much reliance on technology . Presence of mind and good maintaince are 2 very essential things in the present day world. This years air tragedies had one thing in common - too much reliance on auto-pilot and software without a person behind them to use a better judgement. Human beings can think and act. Software and machines cannot think. No doubt we should use them ( technology) but we should not leave everything to machines without human presence.

Disasters waiting to happen. God only has to save passengers on Indian aircrafts. With such outdated aircraft, irregular maintenance and overworked pilots even God may not be able to do much !

The presence of mind by a passenger seated behind the wings,a big disaster was averted, as reported by Times of India. Probably God never wanted so many souls of people at a go infront him for judgement on that day.

Thanks for the concerned who actioned immediately before the crisis!!! Many AI flights are old and the travellers should think twice before buying AI tickets or Insure good and fly. Tyre burst, engine problems persisting regularly these days.
