Sharjah, Dec 5: The most awaited Konkani Theatre Festival presented by SMMKC, Sharjah at Sharjah Worship Centre mesmerizes the Konkani theatre lovers of UAE, on December 1. The twin plays ‘Zhuz’ and ‘Anvkar Mestri’ presented here received overwhelming response and appreciation from the audience.
The teams, ‘Padua Ranga Adhyayana Kendra’ and ‘Astitva Mangaluru’ presented the plays which were the blend of traditional and modern theatre. ‘Zhuz’, written by Fr Alwyn Serrao, directed and acted by Christy Ninasam and Clanwin Fernandes and presented by Padua Ranga Adhyayana Kendra, left the audience spellbound with unique storyline and dialogue delivery and acting skills of both the actors.
‘Anvkar Mestri’, written by Amar Cha Fra D’Costa, directed by Denis Monteiro and presented by Astitva, Mangaluru was able to set laugh riot among the audience.
The event started with a prayer dance featuring Arushi, Disha and Sarah, students of well-known Bhartanatyam trainer Nritya Ratna Rohini Anant. Spiritual director of SMMKC Fr Stephan welcomed the guests.
The festival was inaugurated in a different style by pouring rice to traditional vessel called ‘Kallshi’ by guests. Fr Varghese Chempoly, parish priest of St Michael’s Catholic Church, Sharjah, Fr Stephan Lewis, spiritual director of SMMKC, Fr Maxim Pinto, former spiritual director of SMMKC, Joseph Mathias, chairman of Merit Freight Shipping, Roque Rego, managing director of Creative Land Equipment Rental LLC, Lawrence Monis, supporter of SMMKC Sharjah and Joachim Menezes, coordinator of SMMKC Sharjah.
The event also featured UAE’s well-known singers, Melwyn Antony D’Souza, and Navee Magundi. SMMKC honored the sponsors and artistes with mementoes. Roshan D’Silva compered the programme. Godwin D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks.
