Mangaluru, Dec 5: Evaluators appointed for the answer sheets of degree examinations which concluded about a week back are yet to begin work on full scale, thanks to the callousness of the concern outsourced by the university for the purpose. As answer sheets have not been delivered to the evaluation centres, the evaluation work is held up and the evaluators get unexpected rest.

After the degree examinations were completed on November 25, evaluation work had begun. In normal course, the answer sheets from colleges are dispatched to the university for coding, decoding, data entry process etc. However, the responsibility of monitoring and managing evaluation work stands entrusted to Attris Techologies. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has alleged that on account of lack of coordination, this firm has not handled the work of evaluation efficiently. It says that the inability of the firm to get the work done on time is affecting the future of the students.

ABVP district convener Suresh Rai, has claimed that several answer sheets are still at the examination centres while many papers are reaching evaluation centres without getting coding and decoding work done.

It is said that the data entry staff have not been taking up work this year, duly claiming that the university had failed to disburse them their due properly last year. They say that they will not work until the amounts due to them is disbursed. This is delaying the evaluation work and publication of result will also be affected. As classes get postponed, the students are worried about the prospect of eventually having to suffer the consequences.

Because of non-receipt of sufficient number of answer sheets, evaluators stationed at the centres are left with no work. In certain subjects, only about ten percent of answer sheets have reached these centres, it is said. As the evaluation work of these sheets was finished and fresh sheets were not received, the university was compelled to grant holidays to the evaluators. It is said that a few evaluators also held protest against this situation.

Vice chancellor of the university Dr P S Yadapadithaya, agrees that the evaluation work of answer sheets has been hampered because of the inability of the concern to which the outsourcing was done to work properly. He said that as the outsourcing has already been done this time, nothing can be done at this stage, duly adding that the work will be given to some other firm for the examinations scheduled for May next year, duly adding the firm that is found wanting in its functioning would be blacklisted.
