Kalaburagi, Dec 3: In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped and then murdered by a 35-year-old man in Kalaburagi village on Monday.
The girl studying in second standard was a resident of Yakapur village in Chincholi taluk. On Monday, the girl left for school but did not attend the same. When she did not return as normal at the school leaving time, the worried parents started searching for the girl.
Some of the villagers told the parents that they had spotted the girl wandering with a person named Yallappa, a resident of the same village.
However, when Yallappa was questioned, he was evasive and claimed to not know anything about the girl’s whereabouts.
The parents complained to the Sulepet police and the villagers handed over Yallappa to the police.
A search was launched by the villagers and to everyone’s shock the lifeless body of the girl was found in the canal of Mullamari irrigation project, located behind the Anganwadi centre of the village.
The police suspect rape as Yallappa's inner wear with blood stains was recovered near the canal.
Superintendent of Kalaburagi police, Lada Martin Marbaniang told media that the police have registered a case and investigation is underway.
