Mangaluru: Incomplete drainage work at Kapikad - Sewage leaking onto roads

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Dec 3: An underground drainage that was dug next to Kapikad bus stop here, seven days ago, is still not closed systematically. This clearly shows the apathy of civic bodies in city limits.

Due to unsystematic work, sewage flows onto the open area and people around the area are bearing the brunt of foul smell. In addition, the area has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

According to locals, they complained about leakage of sewage to concerned department of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) many a times, but still no action has been taken yet. Further, they met local corporator and he visited the spot. But he also failed to take proper action nor find a solution.

Speaking to Daijiworld, a local said, “The people living in the area have installed mosquito nets to their windows. No action has been taken so far over the drainage work that is left half done. There is no doubt that sewage will lead to break-out of epidemic in the area. We pay taxes and every year the city corporation spends crores of rupees for the construction and maintenance of drainages in the city. But it is a million dollar question where the money goes. The failure to repair a drainage which is leaking in the heart of city, shows the apathy of administration.”

The locals also warned of holding a protest in front of MCC building if the drainage leakage is not stopped within 24 hours.

It is the responsibility of the elected representatives . No proper plan, simply 'NAMKE VASTE' work. All uneducated and zero knowledge workers from Bagalkot and Bider doing this Mason work. Poor quality of materials are the main reason. We can see our representative only in TV or news papers. Inaugurating shops and functions only. How we get our work done. Atleast DC or Commissioner must regularly take round and see the problems.
