Mangaluru, Dec 2: Ecolink Culture, a travel based education provider in Mangaluru is organising inter- religious Christmas celebration in Sri Lanka, in solidarity with the families affected by the 2019 Easter bombings. The organisation is also hosting a seminar on inter-religious dialogue and Indo-Sri Lankan relations.
Over 25 participants from Mangaluru will join this group. They will also tour around major tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, known as pearl of the Indian Ocean from 27 December to 2 January, 2020.
Although a Buddhist country, Sri Lanka celebrates Christmas as a national festival in the island and tourists from all over the world, especially European countries, visit the island during Christmas and New Year.
The Catholicism in Mangaluru and Sri Lanka are similar as both inherited their faith from Portuguese missionaries. Mangaluru and Sri Lanka are culturally united in several ways and have popular music form ‘Baila’ in common. The package includes a musical evening with Baila songs and dance on the sandy beaches of Negombo and visit to the museum of St Joseph Vas, a Goan priest who served both Mangaluru and Sri Lanka.
Ecolink Culture organises educational tours to selected Asian countries under the title “Discover- Asia”, for students and general public, who want to grow beyond their classroom boundaries. The international education tours are aimed at promoting a culture of global brotherhood through explorative learning, cultural exchange and community interactions.
The Educational Tours to Asian countries include visits to important tourist locations, one day seminar on international relations, community experience through home visits, and environmental programmes like “plant a tree”. Ecolink also organises weekend tours to Kerala Backwaters and Cochin in December.
“Learn while you tour” is the slogan of Ecolink Culture, which was formally inaugurated by Archana Kavi, a popular cine actress in April 2019. Those willing to join the Christmas team to Sri Lanka can register their names with Ecolink.
