Bengaluru, Dec 1: In a shocking incident that took place on Saturday morning at Venkatashamappa Layout in Chamundinagar in the city, a head constable and a constable attached to R T Nagar police station were stabbed by miscreants while they were being taken to the police station in auto rickshaw by the cops.
Constable Chandrakanth received injuries on his hands and legs, while head constable Nagaraj sustained two stab injuries on his abdomen. Both were rushed to M S Ramaiah memorial hospital for treatment.
The residents of the locality where the culprits were caught had complained to the police that illegal activities like smoking and drugs were going on in under-construction buildings at Chamundinagar. The police had put two personnel for night patrolling in the area since several days in plain clothes.
On the morning of Saturday, the cops saw four youths smoking at one of the under-construction buildings. When they approached the youths and tried to arrest them on suspicion, two fled from the spot. The other two were taken into custody by the constable and head constable, who alerted Hoysala police to send the vehicle to take the culprits to police station.
However, after a while, the cops decided to take the culprits in an auto rickshaw instead of waiting for the Hoysala van. At this very moment, one of the two culprits apprehended by the cops, attacked head constable Nagaraj with a knife and stabbed him twice in his stomach. Constable Chandrakanth also was stabbed on his legs and hands, when he tried to restrain the attacker. Following the incident, both the culprits escaped from the spot.
Mithun Shilpi, inspector of R T Nagar police station reached the spot, after he was alerted by constable Chandrakanth. Both the injured policemen were taken to hospital for treatment immediately.
